The Charlottesville Jazz Society, Unity of Charlottesville, and WTJU present
The Eastern Boundary Quartet

On Saturday March 7th at 7:30 pm, The Charlottesville Jazz Society, Unity of Charlottesville and WTJU welcome the return of The Eastern Boundary Quartet to Charlottesville. The Concert will take place at Unity of Charlottesville (church) on Hydraulic Road.

The EASTERN BOUNDARY Quartet is a collaborative quartet featuring the Hungarian master musicians Balazs Bagyi (drums) and Mihaly Borbely (sax and reeds), along with the long-standing partnership of New York City bassist Joe Fonda and pianist Michael Jefry Stevens (co-leaders of the Fonda/Stevens Group and Conference Call).  Since 2007 the quartet has toured Europe and the United States numerous times.  The group uses Hungarian folk rhythms and melodies in combination with jazz harmonies and rhythms to form an original “hybrid” improvised music. Their music can be heard on four well-received CD’s, featuring original music composed by all members of the group. This unique collaboration is a mixture of avant-garde jazz and ethno-music from Hungary, forming a cultural bridge between the USA and Eastern Europe.

Tickets to see The Eastern Boundary Quartet at Unity of Charlottesville are available online. General Admission is $25, $20 for paid supporters of The Charlottesville Jazz Society, $10 for students.

For more information visit cvillejazz.org or call 434-249-6191. This concert is made possible by a grant from the Office of Statewide Partnerships at The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

The CJS is thrilled to announce that we are planning the first annual Charlottesville Jazz Festival, to take place June 4th – 6th, 2026. Jazz vocalist and Charlottesville native Veronica Swift has agreed to return home to headline! We are beginning a fundraising initiative for this expensive endeavor. Tax deductible donations may be made online at cvillejazz.org/donate, with a notation of “festival.” Checks may be mailed to CJS, 1004 Grove Street, Charlottesville, VA  22903.

We are looking for volunteers to help with fundraising and organizing at this time.  As we get closer there will be many opportunities to help at the festival itself. If interested, please email Gary at info@cvillejazz.org
