HOTEL HEROES PROGRAM

Thanks to The English Inn of Charlottesville for offering quality discounted rooms for our touring musicians, but  we still need your help! Each Donation of $150 or more will cover the cost of one room. Mail your check to The CJS at 1004 Grove Street, or donate on our website, and please note it’s for Hotel Heroes.

  • Sunday February 2: The Mingus Awareness Project: A benefit concert for ALS research, the disease that bassist and composer Charles Mingus died from. Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), is a rapidly progressive disease that causes muscle weakness, difficulty speaking and swallowing and, generally, complete paralysis. Mingus Awareness Project concerts have been presented in Richmond, Chicago and Charlottesville since 2007, organized by drummer Brian jones. Bands performing will include The Adam Larrabee Trio and The John D’earth Quintet, 4 to 6 pm at The Front Porch. [tickets]

  • Friday March 21: The Max Johnson Trio returns with a new lineup, including Max on bass, along with up and coming players female musicians Neta Raanan (sax) and Eliza Salem (drums). Venue TBD
  • Wednesday April 2, World renowned violinist and composer Jenny Scheinman, with an all-star band including the great pianist Carmen Staaf, who played here before with Allison Miller. Venue TBD,  Celebrating Gary’s impending 70th birthday.
  • Thursday April 24, The return of popular guitarist Charlie Ballantine, with his New York trio. venue TBD
